Empowering Local Youth for Coral Conservation
Community involvement is key to our corporate sustainability strategy. Through the “Playing with Corals” project, a collaboration between MaRHE and Inter Campus of Inter Milan, local children and coaches learn about coral conservation through a mix of marine education and sport. Over two years, the program has evolved from land-based training with donated reef stars to hands-on coral planting in the ocean, giving participants a deeper connection to reef restoration.
At Sandies Bathala, the Marine Life Sustainability Challenge 2025 welcomed students from Ukulhas School for a full day of learning and fun. From interactive sustainability workshops and a “green walk” around the resort to deploying reef stars and snorkeling the restoration site, students experienced conservation in action. The day ended with beach games and meaningful conversations about marine careers and internships.
These initiatives are planting seeds of awareness and ambition, inspiring a new generation of ocean advocates across the Maldives. When local communities are empowered, the future of our reefs becomes brighter: one coral, one child, and one island at a time.
